Static/grungy

What can I add to the side of the forums (The empty spot on the sides) or maybe the thead to make the forum look more grungy or static. I'm trying to go for the same feel that Halo3 ODST has. Here is a video that shows the style:

I'm also trying to keep the color scheme that the theme I'm using on my forum (nge2, not the default theme that everyone else uses)

What do you mean with the empty spot on the sides? the dark body bg, or the white on the container?

Dark body bg. Maybe add some shadow that fits static/grungy to the forum (Like the sides of it) and then maybe add some video game characters to each side.
